Snapshot of the Day:
RANDOM DAYS|RANDOM PHOTOS|RANDOM STORIES
My son's dented, dusty Radio Flyer wagon, a gift from his Grampy nearly eleven years ago, is well-used and well-loved. From the time he was three, Dear Son has put many miles on this thing, both in practical and imaginative ways.
Takes me back to my own childhood. Dad made sure his girls had a red Radio Flyer wagon. After all, he knew from his own youngster-hood the usefulness of a wagon in both work and play. In fact, I recall him using it to haul things now and then. I wonder if he went back in his mind, as he pulled a load of firewood or something behind him, to his days as a boy, running free on his farm and with his buddies on their land. That was back in the day when you didn't have to check in with Mom quite so often throughout the day. A safer time.
When I see Dear Son's wagon, now enthusiastically used by his little cousin, too, it reminds me of my sisters and me playing in the driveway or in the backyard, pretending the wagon was a car or a boat or a huge skateboard with a long black handle. (?) When we turned it upside down and spun the wheels, we were making ice cream. (? ?).
How did I get from those days to these days? How can I be old enough to be married, have a kid, and, like, be responsible for stuff? I love my life, but sometimes . . . sometimes I'd rather just turn the wagon upside down for little while.
Me, too.....................

ReplyDeleteps not sure why I am having issues commenting under my name, but I deleted one as "unknown". Maybe this will work better:)
Sorry it was giving you fits. Not sure what that was about!

Brings back great memories! Could have used a red wagon today, working in the yard.
ReplyDeleteI feel left out. I never had a wagon, and now I want one! I did have a pink plastic skateboard when we lived on Lamb Drive. Maybe that counts for something?
ReplyDeleteIt definitely counts!! ;)
